PHOTO LONDON DIGITAL | RALPH ZIMAN

October 7 – 18, 2020

THE RENDON GALLERY is pleased to present a solo booth of works by Los Angeles-based artist, Ralph Ziman, for the upcoming edition of Photo London Digital, presented on October 7-18, 2020. The South African artist will be showcasing works from his world-renowned series, The Casspir Project, a traveling multimedia exhibition that is comprised of installation, photography and film. This is the gallery and artist’s first time exhibiting at the London fair.
Ziman is known for work that interrogates human rights issues such as apartheid, the over-militarization of police, and state violence. His work subverts narratives of conflict and oppression and through the reclamation of weaponry turned into an artistic medium, transforms them into a symbol of beauty and humanity. The Casspir Project seeks to challenge the viewer to confront how cultural memory, often entangled in violence, may bear upon the contemporary. The Casspir Project has been exhibited around the world including in Cape Town, New York and Miami.

SCREENING OF CASSPIR DOCUMENTARY

On October 10th an exclusive link will be released to those who register through the Rendon Gallery Eventbrite, giving them access to view the new Casspir Project documentary. This 28-minute documentary on The Casspir Project includes historical footage, personal interviews with South Africans about their first-hand experiences during apartheid, and a behind-the-scenes look at the creation of this multifaceted work of sculpture, photography, and film. The Casspir Project reveals a powerful element to art-making, the emotional impact of transforming an object of fear into an object of beauty.
